With technological advancements in displays and sounds, televisions are better than ever. Televisions can entertain like never before because of media streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Video. But to access these technologies we still use a device that is decades old. The television watching experience is supposed to relaxing and stress free, but the remote control often makes this experience frustrating. Many buttons on the remote are never used and because of the increasing viewership of streaming media, there are many buttons, like the numeric pad, that are being used less and less often. Using mobile phones as remote controls is not enjoyable either. They provide a minimal interface but they can be unintuitive as there are no physical buttons and they disable the user to just pick up the remote and use it. Introducing Harmony! Harmony is a television remote designed to create a more enjoyable and intuitive experience. This is achieved by strategically placing and retaining only the buttons that are used most often.
The power button has been moved from the front, to the side of the remote since it is the least used button during the television watching experience. Harmony also accommodates features like voice command and gesture control. A soft fabric material has been used to cover the touch pad. A warm and soft material wraps around the pure form which appealing to the senses and enhances the experience. Harmony brings the best out of both, streaming media services, as well as direct to home services. Harmony allows user customize and to set gestures for their favorite streaming media or DTH channel. For Example - Swipe 'N' for Netflix, 'A' for Amazon and 'h' for Hulu.
Harmony does not feature the legacy numeric pad because of the increasing viewership of streaming media services. This does not mean that frequent DTH users have been ignored. By pressing the number pad button, numbers appear on the television screen allowing the users to select and jump to their desired channel. The touch pad allows the use of gestures as well as traditional navigation. The navigation buttons illuminate from under the soft panel only when the remote detects that their use may be required. For Example - while watching Netflix or navigating through the settings menu. The center illuminating button can also be used make a selection as well as to play/pause a movie or TV show. The left and right buttons can be used for navigation as well as for rewind and fast forward functions.
